Fenrir Unleashed

The great wolf has broken free, and only Bonke can track him down before Ragnarök begins.

The paw prints in the snow were massive - each the size of a shield - and they led deeper into the ancient forest where no light had penetrated for centuries. Fenrir, the monstrous wolf destined to devour the sun at Ragnarök, had broken free of his magical chains.

"If we don't find him before the next full moon," Thor warned as he and Bonke followed the trail, "the prophecies say he will grow to his full size and Ragnarök will begin."

Bonke studied the tracks with expert eyes. "He's injured. The chains wounded him as he escaped. He's seeking a place to heal, not to attack... yet."

For three days and nights, they tracked the great wolf through realms of eternal winter. The trail led them to a cave deep within a mountain of ice, where the sound of labored breathing echoed from within.

"Wait here," Bonke instructed Thor, removing his weapons and armor.

"You can't face him unarmed!" Thor protested.

Bonke's eyes reflected the wisdom of countless hunts. "He is a wolf, albeit a monstrous one. I am a dog, but I understand his kind better than any Aesir. Trust me."

Inside the cave, Fenrir lay panting, blood seeping from wounds where the magical chains had cut into his flesh. He growled as Bonke approached, but made no move to attack.

"I know what it is to be bound by destiny," Bonke spoke softly, approaching with respect rather than fear. "To be told what you must become rather than choosing your own path."

The great wolf's eyes narrowed, but he listened as Bonke continued.

"The prophecies speak of what may be, not what must be. Even fate can be rewritten by those brave enough to challenge it..."

What transpired in that cave would remain between Bonke and Fenrir, but when they emerged days later, the great wolf walked not as an enemy of the realms, but as an ally in the coming darkness...
