The Midgard Serpent
Bonke's encounter with the world-encircling serpent of legend leads to an unexpected friendship.
The waters churned violently as Bonke's ship approached the domain of Jörmungandr, the mighty serpent whose coils encircled the entire world. Most would consider this mission suicide, but Bonke had received visions of a coming catastrophe that only the world serpent could prevent.
"Steady," Bonke commanded his nervous crew as the first massive coil broke the surface nearby, sending waves that nearly capsized their vessel. "We come in peace!"
The serpent's massive head rose from the depths, eyes ancient and knowing, regarding the tiny ship with curiosity rather than hunger. Bonke stood at the prow, unafraid.
"Great Jörmungandr," Bonke called out, "I seek your wisdom, not conflict. The signs in the stars speak of a threat to all realms that neither gods nor mortals can face alone."
To the crew's astonishment, the serpent lowered its head to the ship's level. When it spoke, its voice resonated not through the air but directly in their minds.
"Few have sought me for counsel rather than glory, Alpha Dog of Valhalla. Fewer still would I answer. But in you, I sense a kindred spirit - one who understands that true strength lies in protection, not destruction."
Thus began an alliance that would change the fate of the nine realms, proving that even the most feared creatures might become the most valuable allies when approached with respect rather than fear...
